With the SE-77 jig, it is easy to set your chisels and plane blades for a 90° sharpening. The jig's design provides you with the best conditions for a successful sharpening with the highest precision in the end result. You can also set the jig for sharpening a slightly convex shape.
The SE-77 jig for straight edges is a further development of the SE-76. It features a movable end that can be adjusted using two smaller adjustment knobs, allowing for fine-tuning when necessary. This may be required if the tool is not exactly parallel to the stone, is very narrow, or if the steel is slightly twisted. The fine-tuning adjustment can be made in seconds by loosening one of the adjustment knobs and tightening the other.
The jig’s construction also allows for positioning and sharpening of conical tools, such as Japanese chisels. The safety stops hold the jig securely on the universal support and prevent the tool from slipping off the sharpening stone. This way, you won’t risk injuring your fingers while sharpening. The jig fits chisels and plane blades up to 77 mm in width.
Sharpening a Convex Shape
Most plane blades can benefit from having a slight convex shape. The degree of rounding depends on the type of plane and is roughly equal to the thickness of the shavings that the plane takes. Thanks to the movable end on the SE-77, you can achieve the optimal convex shape for your tool.
